Informal Graffiti

This series is a rigorous exploration into the convergence of two distinct worlds: the raw, urban energy of graffiti and the contemplative depths of Informal Abstract Art. I seek to bridge these expressions by challenging their traditional boundaries—rethinking supports, materials, and the very contexts in which they evolve. In these works, I subvert the conventions of street art by applying the techniques of Informalism—such as uncontrolled dripping, aggressive palette knife work, and the integration of tactile reliefs like sand and putty. The iconic lettering of graffiti is deliberately deconstructed; the letters dissolve into splashes of color, merging with the background until they are no longer merely "read," but experienced. "Informal Graffiti" represents a transformation of the legible into the visceral. It is a series where the structure of lettering meets the freedom of pure gesture, resulting in a work that balances objective form with a powerful, abstract impact.

(Top-left Detail) - This close-up captures the intricate interplay of textures in the lower-left section. (Top-center Detail) - Focusing on the upper-center, this detailed view showcases the signature deconstructed SACO lettering. The name is rendered in high-relief ridges of thick yellow impasto and white putty, blurring the line between calligraphy and sculpture. The background, a fractured mix of black and white, creates a dynamic urban environment.

(Close-up center Detail) - In this detailed shot of the lower-right, the use of mixed media is most evident. Granular sand reliefs are embedded within the paint, creating a raw, weathered aesthetic that invites tactile discovery. This section is a testament to the creative strength found within the composition's beautiful, informal chaos.

(Top-left Detail) - This close-up captures the central drama of the deconstructed signature, where shattered geometric forms of lavender and periwinkle blue collide with explosive bursts of fiery orange and deep crimson. The thick, sculptural application of palette knives creates deep crevices, mimicking weathered street textures.

(Center Detail) - Focusing on the interplay of light and shadow, this detailed view highlights the high-relief ridges and deep crevices formed by the heavy, sculptural use of palette knives. The contrast between the cool lavenders and the sudden heat of the orange emphasizes the piece's 'architectural ruin' aesthetic.
